2 November 2011

WARNING: This post might seem...frivolous or superficial. But please let me have my moment.

I am a shoe girl. I haven't always been this way. In my 7th grade yearbook, I wrote about how much I loved sneakers.  As an every day piece of footwear. Now, my sneaks are strictly a piece of exercise equipment, and frankly I'd exercise in heels if it wouldn't be completely miserable.  The day after last Christmas, when we got record amounts of snow dumped on us, I refused to wear sensible shoes to a Broadway show. Instead, I trapsed around NYC in a pair of brand new point-toed, deep plum colored, absolutely LUSCIOUS pumps while the snow poured down. By the time we got home, there was 2 feet of snow on the ground, and while going into the house I actually removed the shoes and walked through it in my stocking feet so as not to sacrifice my fabulous footwear.

Yes, I am a shoe girl.

For the past two years, I have been in search of the perfect beige pump. For me this meant a reasonable heel (I love my heels, but I also want to be able to walk somewhat comfortably in them), patent leather, round toed, light camel sort of color. I found some close calls, but nothing worth spending any money on. (Side note: I certainly own an unreasonable amount of shoes, but I am frugal!!! I can't justify spending a lot of money on them)

And then, on the occasion of my birthday last month, I had two DSW coupons and some extra birthday money, so I scoured the website and there they were, my perfect pump.

Naturally I ordered them immediately, and received the notice that they shipped a couple of days later. But of course, I missed the delivery a few days after that. I went to the post office in South Philly (which is also the Ninth Circle of Hell) and waited in line for half an hour, and guess what? That's right. They weren't there.

I was beginning to feel like my beige pumps and I were never going to be together.

But, I braved the post office again today, a week and half later, and after a no-big-deal 5 minute wait, I had my package in hand. WHEW! I couldn't even wait to get home and tear into the box. So I didn't!

Today, I am grateful that I finally have this lovely pair of shoes that I've been lusting after for the better part of two years.  A necessity? Not exactly. But I'm grateful that I'm able to buy something beautiful that makes me really, really happy. They may not be Manolo Blahniks, but they get the job done for me.

  2. Don't apologize for finding your sole mate (pun intended)! Those are gorgeous shoes and the round toe is really nice to see in a world of pointy toes.
